The Waning Moon, A Time to Rest

Me-Ommmmm! Tonight is a Full Blue Moon! With this rare occurrence, Mama and I have decided that it was time to take a short break from the blogosphere (Mama has four blogs to manage!). The Waning Moon is a time to rest, but rest is also an activity in itself, so I will of course be keeping up on my yoga and zen mediation practice! If you need assistance with your yoga practice while I am away, you can purchase my book or eBook. A portion of the proceed will also go towards animal rescue! Me-Ommmmm

Me and Apollo in a focused mind-melding meditation!

Activity and rest are two vital aspects of life. To find a balance in them is a skill in itself. Wisdom is knowing when to have rest, when to have activity, and how much of each to have. Finding them in each other – activity in rest and rest in activity – is the ultimate freedom.

Bad Poetry Contest...with Prizes!

Me practicing yoga on the dog bed
There once was a pretty yogicat
Who sat on a bed instead of a mat
She's a most beautiful kitty too
You wouldn't know she's older than two
And she's a little rotund not fat

Me-Ommmmm! I am excited to announce that my brotherpup Ku at Haiku by Ku and his buddy Oz the Terrier are co-hosting the Bad Poetry Contest in honor of Bad Poetry Day which is this Sunday August 18th. All you have to do is write some bad poetry on your blog and then submit the link at either Ku or Oz' blogs by midnight Sunday. Good luck and Me-Ommmmmmm

Practicing Non-violence: Ahimsa

Me practicing Ahimsa with brother Apollo even though
he buggies me sometimes.

There has been much in the news about animal cruelty lately. May we all send out loving prayers for all suffering animals and for the humans that they may see the light of practicing the first part of the first limb of yoga: Ahimsa (non-violence). Me-Ommmmm
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.
I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.

Help Support Animal Rescue!

One of the most powerful things a yogi can do is practice Karma Yoga, that is, to be of service and helpful to others, especially those in need. My brother Kuruk has published his book telling the story of his rescue from a large puppy mill in Alaska and of his healing journey. Here is what he says in his blog post:

Wooooohoooooowooooowoooooooo! I’m so very excited and thankful to announce that my book, Kuruk: The Little Bear That Could, is published and available for purchase. In about a week it will be available at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble, but until then you can order it through Create Space or by clicking the picture of my book cover!
The purpose of my book about the story of my rescue is to raise awareness about puppy mills and animal abuse, and to raise money to donate to rescue groups for all animals: pups, kitties, horses, chickens… I will announce donations on this blog as they are made.
My book is not too long, includes some haiku, and it is written suitably for the reading pleasure of both children and adults. Please help support our cause!
Feel free to re-blog and help spread the word. All is greatly appreciated!
Thank yooowooowoooooo! Ku of Haiku by Ku
You can also support rescues by purchasing my most inspiring and educational yoga book: Daily Yoga for a Happy and Healthy Cat.
Thank you and Me-Ommmmm!
I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that
life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.

Saturday Asana: Viparita Karani Asana

Viparita Karani Asana means "inverted doing posture." It is often also called "legs up pose." Humans often need to put their two legs up the wall, but felines, pups, and other more evolved animals can put all four legs up without the assistance of a wall as I have demonstrated here:

Take some nice deep breaths, close your eyes, and relax into the pose.
